San Diego Festival of Beer Returns to the Broadway Pier September 23: San Diego’s Biggest Beer Event for a Cause Features Election Theme for 2016

60 Breweries and 120 Brews on Tap at this Year’s Fest: All Proceeds Benefit Local Cancer Charities

(SAN DIEGO, Calif. – August 19, 2016)San Diego Professionals Against Cancer, the nonprofit group that hosts the annual San Diego Festival of Beer are proud to announce its return to Broadway Pier on Friday, September 23 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Guests attending the festival will sample 120 varieties of beer, cider and mead from 60 craft breweries, purchase food from local food trucks and restaurants and enjoy live music all for a great cause. All of the proceeds from the festival go to local cancer related charities. To date, the festival has raised nearly $700,000.

This year’s festival will have a political theme. Attendees are encouraged to where red, white and blue and come join the bipartisan festivities. Around 2,000 participants are expected at this year’s festival. Sponsors include the Port of San Diego, Rock 105.3 and 101 KGB, Marriott SpringHill Suites, Greater Good Realty, GreenRope and C2 Imaging.

Tickets are $50 online and at the door and can be purchased online, here.

Visitors who pre-purchase tickets will be able to bypass the ticket line with a separate entrance. Each ticket includes admission into the event, unlimited (2 oz) beer tastes and a special souvenir tasting mug for the first 1,500 attendees.  Wine and merchandise are also available for purchase, as well as food from dozens of local vendors and food trucks. Credit cards will be accepted at the gate and an ATM will be available on site.

The San Diego Festival of Beer is the largest fundraising event for the San Diego Professionals Against Cancer (SDPAC). To date the festival has raised over $665,000, benefitting local cancer-fighting organizations. This year, the SDPAC awarded $30,000 to Rady Children’s Hospital that was matched by the Rady Children’s Auxiliary Challenge Match for Neuroscience, making the donation a total of $60,000.

In addition, SDPAC awarded $5,000 to the Emilio Narez Foundation and the Jewish Family Services of San Diego, organizations that provide transportation to cancer patients and their families. SDPAC also awarded $15,000 to the Seany Foundation, a nonprofit that provides support for children and teens fighting cancer.

“Each year we donate money to local nonprofits based on festival ticket sales from our previous year,” said San Diego Professionals Against Cancer Board President Carri Chandler.  “Our event is completely run by a team of more than 300 volunteers, which allows us to contribute all of the money we generate from the festival to local charities. Those who attended our 2015 festival actively contributed to this year’s donations to Rady Children’s Hospital, the Emilio Nares Foundation and the Jewish Family Services of San Diego. The San Diego Festival of Beer is not just the original beer fest but it’s also the largest beer fundraising event in San Diego, with around 2,000 attendees each year.”
